Today, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received the President of Eritrea, Isaias Afwerki, at the Ittihadia Palace where a formal reception was held and the two presidents inspected the guard of honor.
President El Sisi expressed appreciation for the close historic relations between the two countries as well as the cooperation, common views and strategic interests that bind them. The President confirmed Egypt’s keenness for these relations to continue with the same strength and distinction, in addition to reinforcing strategic cooperation with Eritrea across different fields and establishing sustainable partnership between the two countries at the bilateral level. This is in addition to close coordination on issues pertinent to the region and the African continent in general, particularly in light of the current Egyptian chairmanship of the African Union.
The President confirmed the importance of moving forward with crystallizing specific plans to develop cooperation projects between the two sides in various sectors and to overcome all obstacles in this regard, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure, electricity, health, trade, investment, agriculture, livestock and fishery. This is in addition to intensifying technical support programs offered to the Eritrean side through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD).
For his part, President Afwerki expressed his appreciation for the pivotal role that Egypt is playing at the level of promoting the development process and maintaining peace and stability in the African continent, confirming the deep and close historic relations that bind the two counties. He added that Eritrea looks forward to intensifying cooperation with Egypt in various fields and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s positions that seek to realise stability in the Horn of Africa, which reflected on the great Egyptian support to Eritrea in the past period reaching the lifting of international sanctions on Eritrea after reconciling with neighboring countries.
The meeting touched on the latest regional developments, where both sides agreed to continue coordinating and consulting on these developments, particularly issues pertinent to the Horn of Africa, Sudan, Somalia as well as the Nile water and the Red Sea security, in order to bolster the region’s security and stability.
