President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call on Thursday from President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.

President El Sisi underscored the importance he places on consulting with President Kenyatta, given the outstanding bilateral relations between Egypt and Kenya. He confirmed Egypt’s commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two countries across various areas, notably in trade, investment, upgrading the infrastructure and providing technical support and capacity building.
President Kenyatta congratulated President El Sisi on the success of the last AU summit in Addis Ababa, and lauded the ongoing progress in bilateral relations. The Kenyan President expressed his profound appreciation for Egypt, its people and leadership and underlined the broad prospects for further enhancing relations and bilateral cooperation in an array of areas so as to achieve comprehensive development in both countries.
The two Presidents discussed developments in a number of regional issues and dossiers pertinent to the AU. There was an agreement on the need to strengthen coordination, consultations as well as exchanges of view between the two countries during Egypt’s AU chairmanship this year, particularly on work priorities inside the AU, including institutional, political and developmental. The President of Kenya valued Egypt’s effective role inside the AU, notably in light of its historic, political and economic leverage in the continent. He expressed his confidence in the effective Egyptian leadership to steer joint African action during 2019 so as to help achieve more prosperity for the peoples and countries of Africa.
The call also tackled ways to achieve economic and developmental integration among Nile Basin countries. The two Presidents agreed on the importance of engaging in an effective and constructive dialogue in order to enhance the strategic cooperation among Nile Basin countries to advance their interests, address common challenges, and realize comprehensive development for all peoples in the region.
